Our Story
Brad and I met in a young adult’s group at our church. We shared the same group of friends and spent a lot of time together, but we didn’t begin dating until two years later. After a year of dating, we were married in our home church- celebrating with family and close friends. We wrote our own vows to one another and they are handwritten and now framed in our home. Our wedding ceremony was a meaningful and special way to start our marriage.
We have been married for 8 years and it truly just gets better over time. Brad works as an Engineer, and I am a stay-at-home mom. I used to work as a pediatric nurse but chose to stay home when our oldest was born and plan to continue as a stay-at-home mom as our children grow. We are a Christian family and are active and involved in our local church where Brad serves as a deacon, and I assist with an adoption ministry. Our faith is very important to us and has been helpful in navigating all the ups and downs in life, including the miscarriage of our baby in 2020. This is what led us to pursue our long-held desire to continue our family through adoption.
Brad and I enjoy spending time together. We have always loved to be outdoors: hiking, walking and exploring. We also enjoy playing card games, watching TV together at the end of the day, going out for date nights, spending time with friends, going to church, being silly with our kids, and traveling when we get the rare chance.
Some Favorite Traditions…
In our family, we enjoy making new memories and establishing traditions. Every Saturday we make and devour Dad’s “famous” pancakes with chocolate chips, nuts and sometimes in fun shapes and colors. Our kids have recently started helping cook and have so much fun being a part of the action! Each summer, we go to Schlitterbahn waterpark with Grammy and cousins for a few days. This is a trip we look forward to all year! We also try to take one vacation each year- the beach is a family favorite!
Birthdays are a big deal in our home. We decorate with streamers and balloons and celebrate with homemade cake and sharing our favorite thing about the birthday boy/girl. We also celebrate half birthdays with ice cream! For the Christmas season, we kick it off by decorating the tree and home together while listening to holiday music. We make hot chocolate, wear pajamas and drive around the neighborhood looking at lights. On Christmas Eve, we attend church together as a family and sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus (a carried-on tradition from Katie’s childhood).
We hope that these traditions and activities will serve as fond memories for our kids to look back on. What makes it most special is the time spent together. We know there are still many more memories to come, and we look forward to including another child into the fun!
