Finding the heart to carry on when you’re pregnant and don’t want a baby

Does it feel like you have been bombarded with messages about hearts and love since the beginning of February?

25572194_sIt started with American Heart Month – only to be interrupted by Valentine’s Day. Every store was wrapped in red and filled with boxes of candy, pictures of flowers and heart-shaped cards. But what if your life isn’t rosy right now because you’re pregnant and don’t want a baby?

Looking for guidance

If you’re looking for answers, then go to someone who has experience working with pregnant women who don’t want a baby. Adoption counselors see women in your position all the time and can help you explore your options. They are not there to judge or to convince you that adoption is the answer to your problem. Only you can decide that.

Knowing your heart

It takes a big heart to become a birth mother. You carry a child for nine months and then give that precious gift to someone who wants a child more than anything. You also give that baby a loving home.

Yet you don’t have to feel forgotten afterward. If you choose an open adoption, you can pick the baby’s family, receive updates and establish a level of involvement with the adoptive parents before the birth. You can also choose a closed adoption without future contact or outline some variation in between.

Talk to someone who knows many women who are pregnant and don’t want a baby. Contact the trained social workers at Legacy Adoption Services and learn whether you have the heart to be a birth mom.
