Self-Improvement September

Legacy has improved the Adoption process

September is a month of change; change of pace with classes in the beginning of the school year, change of mentality from vacation mode to work mode, and if you live anywhere but Texas, change of wardrobe from shorts and tanks to pants and cardigans. But, as all Texans know, that won’t be necessary at least until late October! With change all around us, it would only be suiting to acknowledge September as “Self-Improvement Month.”

Self-improvement could mean finding new possibilities and new opportunities. Explore beyond your beaten path and beyond your handheld screen. Go outside your comfort level and talk to the person behind you in the Chipotle line, make a joke to the person on the cheese aisle in the grocery store, or simply ask the cashier, genuinely how they are doing. Broaden your horizon of knowledge.

Research things you don’t much about…

  • Unsure how a semi-open adoption works?
  • Curious about the difference between an adoption agency and a pregnancy center?
  • Want to know the different services Legacy Adoptions offers compared to other agencies?

To show you who you are.
To show you who you were.
And to show you who you want to be.” -Anonymous

Here’s your chance to find out the answers!

Semi-Open Adoption is generally when the Birth mom receives pictures and letters every year delegated through the agency; Legacy tailors these details to what the Birth mom is comfortable with, since every woman is truly unique. She may want two letters with multiple pictures a year or she may not want any pictures and just wants a letter every year to hear the development of her baby. Some want phone calls and a visit or two. Legacy counsels with her to ensure we find the best fit for her together.

A pregnancy center is the first stop for a mother with an unexpected pregnancy. She can receive a confidential pregnancy test and sonogram free of charge. Some pregnancy centers offer counseling, parenting classes, financial resources, and STD testing. It’s best to research the one closest to you to know the extent of their services.

An adoption agency, matches a Birth mom with a loving family to raise her child when she doesn’t have the resources or is not ready to parent. Legacy Adoptions specifically, provides lifetime counseling, planning for both parenting and adoption, and transportation and support for doctor’s appointments, as well as many other services. Legacy counselors are available 24 hours a day, providing individualized family matching and post contacts with baby, and they help connect Birth moms with community resources to help them after pregnancy.

Reading about all the support Legacy provides for Birth moms begs the question of, “What can I PERSONALLY do to support someone I love or have lost contact with?” Use this new month to reach out to an old friend or a distant family member to see what support you could offer, even if it’s just a listening ear. It feels good to help others; that’s why Legacy counselors do what they do. Whether you’re trying to improve your health, expand your mind, reach out to those in need, or make an effort to expand your palate of activities, use this month to embrace even the slightest bit of change.
