What if I Change My Mind?

Generally, most people do not consider adoption when they find out they are pregnant, or they do consider it, but do not feel that they are strong enough to do it. Pregnancy and the thought of newborn can cause a lot of excitement for a mom and her family. However, this excitement can cause people to choose to parent without even considering what the future holds.

Family might promise to help, your boyfriend might propose, you might get assistance through different programs and you might find a decent paying job. What happens if all those plans fall apart though? What if you are too overwhelmed? What if they do not help you? What if you can’t find a job? What if you change your mind?

If these circumstances sound like you and they are causing you to consider placing your child for adoption, please know you are not alone. It is not uncommon for the excitement of a baby to cause people to make promises they do not intend on keeping.

It is hard, but not impossible to make it on your own as a single parent. We have great examples all around us of men and women who did it and did it well. However, if you do not feel like you can do it, there is always an open door at Legacy. If you just need to sit down and talk about your options with someone, we can be that support for you. We can show you what life would look like parenting and what life would look like if you were to choose adoption as a parenting option. Choosing adoption does not mean you are abandoning your child. You are allowing selfless love to guide your child’s future, and the beautiful thing about an open adoption is you can still be a part of your child’s life.

You might feel like you need to talk to someone who knows more about the process of adoption and what parenting would look like. Getting expert opinions is an excellent idea because it is so important that you fully understand what parenting entails. The options counselors at Legacy Adoptions are willing and able to help you discuss the options available to you and your child. Your counselor will be there for both of you as you sort through every emotion you are feeling. Contact a Legacy options counselor today by phone, chat, or email to begin the discussion.
